Dialogues with Strings – Live at Café Oto brings together four outstanding improvisers: Trevor Watts (alto/soprano saxophones), Veryan Weston (piano), Alison Blunt (violin), and Hannah Marshall (cello). Watts and Weston, long-time collaborators, expanded their celebrated duo into a quartet by inviting Blunt and Marshall, whose creative voices brought new colours and depth. Their very first concert as a quartet took place at Café Oto, London, on April 23, 2017, recorded live by James Dunn and later mixed/mastered by Trevor Watts at ARC Studios. The music is expansive, shifting from delicate interplay to fiery intensity, blending strings and reeds into an intricate and lyrical sound world. Released on Fundacja Słuchaj in 2017, the CD contains three extended improvisations, part of which was broadcast by the BBC shortly after the performance. A vivid document of adventurous chamber improvisation, full of warmth, connection, and risk-taking.
